Former Williams driver Nico Hulkenberg, who is yet to find his 2020 Formula 1 seat, says he is “not the right driver” for the team right now, adding that “they need somebody else”.
Hulkenberg lost his 2020 drive when Renault announced his seat would be taken by Esteban Ocon. There was some speculation that the German driver might go back to Williams, where he started his F1 career in 2010, but he says it’s not “the right timing” for that.
“I think they need somebody else,” said Hulkenberg.
“I think I’m not the right person, the right driver for them.
“Where I am in my career, where they are, and the timings, I just don’t think it’s the right timing for us.
“With all due respect to the team, and obviously I’ve raced for them and everything, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
